Engineering Certificate Attestation

Engineering Certificate is an essential document for every engineering professional whether they want to enroll in a master’s course or get into a job. However, if you want to use it abroad, the certificate is not enough. Attestation is mandatory for the use of certificates in a foreign country.

Attestation is a multi-step process of verifying the authenticity of a document by different authorities which enables it to be used anywhere across the globe. Only an attested Engineering Certificate will be accepted for official purposes in a foreign land. Attestation is mandatory to eliminate the possibility of forgery and associated legal complications.

Engineering certificate attestation is important for a number of reasons. A few of them include:

  • To get an employment visa
  • To obtain a job abroad
  • To pursue higher education
  • To get recognition from a professional engineering body

Documents required for Engineering Certificate Attestation

Certain documents are required for the successful completion of the attestation process. Engineering Certificate attestation also needs a few documents. These include the original engineering certificate along with the mark list of all the semesters and a copy of the passport of the applicant. You will be required to provide your photos too.

Authorities may also ask you to furnish other relevant documents to support your certificate. Your address, email ID and phone number will also be collected.

Like any other attestation process, Engineering certificate attestation also has the same steps. This attestation process begins with the notary attestation at the regional level and proceeds with state level attestation. After MEA and Embassy attestation, the certificate goes for MOFA attestation. MOFA attestation is required for only certain countries.

Step-by-step process of Engineering Certificate Attestation

Notary level attestation is the attestation at the regional level. At this level, notaries check whether the documents are genuine or not. Since the engineering certificates are educational documents, these are attested by the universities that issue them. For commercial documents, the attesting authority is the Chamber of Commerce. This is the step that differs in most attestation processes.

After regional level verification comes State level verification. It is conducted by the State Home Department (SHD), Human Resource Department (HRD), and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). After the satisfactory verification of the documents, they attest the document with their signature and seal.

After the attestation by the state, the document is attested by the Ministry of External Affairs. MEA deals with the external affairs of the country and it is the final step of attestation from the government of the origin country. MEA can carry out either apostille Attestation or normal attestation.

Those countries who have signed the Hague Convention accept apostille documents. Countries not signatories of the Hague Convention follow the normal attestation procedure. In normal attestation, the documents are pasted with a stamp on the backside while in apostille attestation, a stamp and an apostille sticker are pasted on the documents.

After the MEA attestation process, the Embassy of the destination country further validates the documents. This step is not mandatory for all countries.

MOFA attestation is the last step in the document attestation process for countries like UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
